Experimental and Clinical Physiology and BiochemistryIntroduction. In this experimental research the influence of a HAES-LX-5% colloid-hyperosmolar solution and the reference preparation of a protein-salt solution Lactoprotein with sorbitol (LPS) and the control solution of 0.9% NaCl was studied on the functional state of the lungs according to the ultrastructural indices of rats’ lungs on cellular and subcellular levels. Materials and methods. The solutions were used in the dose of 10 ml/kg intravenous per day during 168 hours. The stereometric analysis of the lung tissue showed that in rats that were injected with solutions of 0.9% NaCl, HAES-LX-5% and LPS, there were no significant differences in the relative volume of damaged lung areas as compared to the ones of intact animals. During the experiment, this indicator varied from 0.071 to 0.111 cm3/cm3 (p > 0.05). From the first to the thirtieth day of the experiment the relative volume of the damaged areas of the lungs was significantly less (p < 0.001) in all groups of the experimental animals. Results. The changes in the morphological structure of the lungs of animals that were injected with infusion solutions were studied on the 7th, 14th and 30th days from the start of the experiment. The results of the study assessing the ultrastructure of rats' lungs, the bronchial, vascular and alveoli conducting systems suggest that the administration of HAES-LX-5% solution to animals does not cause pathological changes in the lungs ultrastructure: in the bronchial and vascular conducting systems, alveoli, air-blood barrier, alveolarocytes of II type and unlike the reference preparation, does not increase the adhesion of leukocytes to endotheliocytes and does not increase the number of alveolar macrophages, confirming its harmlessness and the absence of potential allergenic properties. Conclusions. The study confirmed the safety of these three solutions, the absence of their toxic effects on the structures of the rats’ lungs during the entire observation period (from the first day to the thirtieth one). The obtained results can be added to the pharmacological characteristics of the colloidal hyperosmolar preparation of HAES-LX-5% and the protein-salt hyperosmolar solution of LPS.
