Експериментальна та клінічна фізіологія і біохіміяThe study was conducted to examine the patterns of age adjustment of mandibular body in male and female while the integrity of the dentition is maintained by studying 100 panoramic radiographs obtained in Lviv dental clinics. Certified images were divided into 4 groups: 25 images of patients aged 22–35 and 36–60, males and females, respectively. The study of panoramic radiographs of maxillofacial region in male and female of both age groups and conducted morphometric study of radiographs enabled us to determine the peculiarities of the area under study, as well as their age dynamics characteristic of persons of each gender. Determination of linear parameters, i.e. height of the mandibular body and its components was performed at the level of incisal segments and those of molar teeth.Analysis of the obtained results of morphometric study determined that the overall height of the mandibular body in men decreases with age at the level of both incisal segments and molars. In women the given measure is also reduced at the level of molar segments, but it remains unchanged at the level of incisal segments with a slight tendency to increase. At the level of incisal segments in males the height of the main part of the jaw tends to decrease with age, and on the contrary the height of the alveolar ridge slightly increased. However, reverse age dynamics is present at the level of molar segments – the height of the main mandibular part increases with age, and the height of alveolar ridge significantly reduce.
Analysis of the linear dimensions of the mandibular body height in women of different age groups revealed that at the incisal segment level the height of both main region and the alveolar ridge in patients of the second age group tends to increase compared to the first age group. However, at the molar segment level the height the main region of the jaw significantly reduces with age, while the height of the alveolar ridge tends to increase. Men of all ages in both studied areas the height of the main body of the mandible is higher than the height of the alveolar ridge, while in women the same ratio was found in both age groups at the level of incisal segments, but at the level of molar segments It was found only in patients of the first age group. In females of the second age group the opposite relationship was found, i.e. the height of the alveolar ridge significantly exceeded the height of the main mandibular body.
Comparison of the studied linear dimensions of the mandibular body and its components in males of different age groups showed that overall height of the mandibular body and the height of the main body at the level of incisal segments and the height of the alveolar ridge at the level of molar segments reduce with age significantly. The tendency to positive age dynamics was determined for the alveolar region of the mandibular body in men at the level of incisal segments and for the main area at the level of molar segments. The reduction with age of the height of the mandibular body at the level of molar segments and the decrease of the main part of the jaw at the same level was determined in women. The height of the mandibular body at the level of incisal segments of women has a positive age dynamics, upward tendency in linear dimensions was also revealed for the height of the main region and alveolar part of mandibular body at the incisal segment level and for the height of the alveolar ridge at the level of molar segments.
